...Shedding Light on Those Allegedly Involved in the Killing and Dismemberment of Motu Mone’s Body
Kanaka is described by victims as the chief controller of Tompolo’s illegal private prison in Oporoza, Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West, Delta State, Nigeria. He is reportedly known as the DPO. Anything concerning the prison is said to pass through him before reaching the commissioner of the prison, Ekomieyefa Uduboh, also known as KFT.
According to accounts, Kanaka is in charge of the prisoners. When victims are allegedly kidnapped and taken to Oporoza, they are first handed over to Kanaka the DPO.
He is responsible for matters concerning their welfare and reportedly stays inside one of the rooms in the prison building, the first room on the left in the building that Oketeba took his picture.
Kanaka is said to have considerable authority over the prisoners. According to the accounts, prisoners often call on him when they are sick because he is responsible for their medical needs and many other matters concerning their welfare.
Sometimes, when family members send money to prisoners, according to the accounts, he sometimes keeps part of the money for himself, just like the behavior of Oketebe. He also most often uses them for hard labor based on instructions from the Commissioner of the Prison.
However, the victims also describe him as having some compassion toward the prisoners and say there are certain things he does to help them that cannot be revealed here.
Most of the time, when prisoners have health problems or other difficulties, Kanaka reportedly takes their complaints to his superior, Ekomieyefa Uduboh.
According to the accounts, Ekomieyefa often tells him to stop complaining about the prisoners and allow them to suffer, saying that he does not want to hear any complaints. Because of this, Kanaka reportedly chooses to remain quiet most time even when the prisoners are going through a lot of suffering.
Kanaka is described as someone Tompolo trusts greatly, even more than Ekomieyefa. According to the accounts, whenever Tompolo wants to verify information about what is happening to the prisoners, he calls Kanaka and questions him.
Despite his position, Kanaka is described by some victims as one as a sympathetic guards. He reportedly runs errands for prisoners and helps them obtain some of the personal items they need.
However, Kanaka is often powerless when senior guard such as Ekomieyefa Uduboh and Super Ebilade come to beat prisoners or force them to provide information.
Because these persons are his superiors, Kanaka reportedly cannot intervene. The victims say they have never seen Kanaka beat any prisoners, although they allege that he sometimes threatens prisoners in an attempt to obtain information from them.
According to another account, Kanaka has boasted that he was among those who took Motu Mone, also known as MK, out of the private prison and killed him. The account claims that he has expressed pride in this among people in Oporoza, Gbaramatu Kingdom.
Jerry Ubebe
Jerry is another prison guard at Tompolo’s private prison. According to the accounts, they have found no fault with him. He is described as a good person who does not mistreat victims and simply carries out his duties without using torture or intimidation.
According to the accounts, Jerry earns the lowest salary among the guards, reportedly receiving ₦100,000 per month. He is said to survive partly by borrowing money and often complains that he is tired of the job and feels that his life is being wasted in that environment.
Super Ebilade
Super Ebilade is described as another senior guard at Tompolo’s Tantita private prison. According to accounts, he is very brutal.
One of his roles is to terrorize youths from Egbema Kingdom whenever there is a disagreement. The accounts allege that he kidnaps youths, takes them to Oporoza, and subjects them to torture at the private prison.
Super Ebilade is also alleged to have been among those who took Motu Mone, also known as MK, and about four other people who are from Egbema Kingdom out of the private prison. According to the accounts, they were taken to the Sarabubo waterside, where MK and others was killed and his body cut into pieces.
The accounts further state that Super Ebilade has targeted not only youths from Egbema Kingdom but also some Itsekiri youths. They were kidnapped, taken to Oporoza, and tortured, with some spending about two months inside the private prison.
Ebipade Kari
Ebipade Kari is described as Tompolo’s Tantita Chief Security Officer. According to the accounts, he was removed from the position following the death of Motu Mone.
When Motu Mone was taken to Oporoza, Gbaramatu Kingdom, instead of being handed over to the police, Ebipade Kari’s two brothers were reportedly among those involved with MK. According to the account, when the decision to kill Motu Mone was made, Ebipade Kari freed his two brothers while Motu Mone and others were killed.
The account further claims that when Tompolo learned that Ebipade Kari had freed his own brothers while Motu Mone and others were killed, he locked Kari in a room for almost three months. Kari was later released, but his position was reportedly taken away from him.
Ebipade Kari is also alleged to have been involved in kidnapping youths from Egbema Kingdom, taking them to Oporoza, Gbaramatu Kingdom, and subjecting them to torture.
In another account, Ebipade Kari was allegedly accused of throwing his wife from a storey building following a disagreement, resulting in her death. The account claims that Tompolo spent money to prevent the case from proceeding and later arranged another marriage for Kari.
